Tuesday, November 28, 2006 (New Delhi):Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajpakse begins his official meetings with the Indian government on Tuesday.
The meeting comes at a time when there is immense pressure on him to broker peace with the LTTE.
Just hours ahead of a crucial meeting with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the LTTE chief Prabhakaran issued a statement warning that the Tamil Tigers had no option now but to return to war and fight for independent statehood.
There were massive protests by MDMK chief Vaiko and Tamil groups, demanding New Delhi put pressure on Rajpakse to end alleged human rights violations on Tamil minorities.
New Delhi will be giving the visiting President a strong message that his military must honour the four-year-old ceasefire and the two sides should go back to the negotiating table.
