New Delhi: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse is in India and Tamil Nadu's pro-LTTE political parties are protesting his visit.
The parties include the DMK, PMK and MDMK. There were similar protests earlier this year, which had led to the cancellation of Rajapakse's visit to Tamil Nadu in January.
The Dalit Panthers of India, Tamil Nationalist Movement, Tamil Nadu Nationalist Congress Party and other organisations want India to raise the plight of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, rather than agreeing to a defence pact with the country.
Tamil poets and writers went on a fast in Chennai condemning the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka while MDMK leader Vaiko protested outside the Sri Lankan High Commission in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, MDMK leader, Vaiko led a protest outside the Sri Lankan High Commission in Delhi, condemning the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
”The Sri Lankan government should stop forthwith the genocidal attacks against the Tamils. They should open highways, because 7,00,000 Tamils are subjected to starvation. They are dying. Killing of innocent Tamils has become the order of the day. The Indian government should prevail upon the Sri Lankan President, who has come over to India whose hands are dyed with the blood of Tamils,” he said.
