Shoaib-Asif verdict expected soon

Lahore:Judgement day for Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammed Asif could be as soon as the end of this week.

The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed appeals committee is due to announce its verdict on both the bowlers.

The duo, who tested positive for nandrolone, have appealed against their bans.

Shoaib was banned for two years and Asif for a year, and both have challenged the bans.

The three-member panel that was constituted to hear the appeals consists of former Test cricketer Haseeb Ahsan, anti-doping expert Dr Danish Zaheer and prominent lawyer Fakhruddin G Ibrahim.

"Today, arguments were concluded by the parties and at the end of it, certain questions were raised by the judges. They have taken time to reply to that and they will give their reply either tomorrow or day after."

"Thereafter, the three judges will sit together - one of them is in Brunei - and decide what is to be the decision and, God willing, as soon as possible thereafter we'll hear the judgement," said Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, Committee Chairman.
