Mumbai might have booed its native son when he did not match up to their expectations in the Mumbai Test versus England earlier this year. But Mumbaikars are standing by Sachin Tendulkar in light of the comments made by another Mumbaikar.
Manjrekar, a one time India and Mumbai teammate of Sachin's could not have guessed just how unanimously the cricketing fraternity would reject his views on the Bombay Bomber.
Cricketers have reacted sharply to Sanjay Manjrekar's allegations that Sachin Tendulkar has faked his injuries.
"I don't know why he has written this. I have seen it with my own eyes," said Ajit Wadekar, Former Indian Captain.
"This should not be written. He has played phenomenally well," said Dlip Sardesai, Former Indian cricketer.
Tendulkar has responded to Manjrekar's criticism only by saying that it is unfortunate that an ex-India cricketer should make a comment without knowing the facts.
Manjrekar responded by hinting that he had perhaps lost a friend.
The debate is sure to continue. Sachin will be hoping to show that his appetite for his willow wielding has not diminished in spite of his latest injury break.
Manjrekar, meanwhile, will be hoping that the attention soon shifts away from his comments and to the action in the middle.
