Mumbai:With registrations for the current GRE exam being closed abruptly, aspirants like Lucky Gupta are in a spot.
Lucky wants to do his MS from the US next year and has been preparing for the GRE for months. But the English Testing Service's abrupt decision to close exam dates has upset this engineer's plans.
"I was caught unawares. I have been preparing for the old GRE and wanted to register for the test, but now the registrations have been closed for old test," says Lucky, a GRE Aspirant.
"It's only in September that I willbe able to take the new test. That leaves me with very little time to prepare," he adds.
The first deadline filling in applications for 2008 academic session expire in November and December, which means getting a test date in September or October might be a problem.
Experts like Jijo Srinivasan advise students apply as early as possible and not to worry about the new test. "There are a lot of non-GRE programmes available, like courses in telecom in Sweden," he adds.
ETS, which conducts the GRE, has advised students unable to meet their application deadlines to contact their graduate schools so that it can arrange special tests for such applicants.
