Sania out of action due to injury

Hyderabad: Sania Mirza will be out of action for nearly a week due to an injury to her knee. She had sustained a hyper-extension of the knee during her first round match in the Qatar Open in Doha earlier in the week.

Sania had complained of pain in the knee with swelling while playing and on examination it was found that there was an 'Anterior Cruciate Ligament' injury to her right knee.

She was taken to the Apollo Hospial in Hyderabad on Saturday where tests were conducted on her.

After the tests her mother said that Sania was fine.

"Sania is out of the operation theatre. The tests are over and she is absolutely fine," her mother said.

Due to the injury Sania will reschedule her tournaments. She was to participate in tournaments in Indian Wells, Miami and the Baush and Lomb Championship in Amelia Island.

Earlier, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals Dr KJ Reddy had said: "She has sustained injury to the ligament. However, present investigations are not complete yet. Once we ascertain the type of injury, we'll be able to tell you how long it will take to recover. Although it's difficult to say, I think she'll be out of action for the next few weeks."
