Politicians add colour to Holi



New Delhi, Patna:India's political class celebrated the festival of colour with style.

Senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani on Sunday celebrated Holi at their homes with party colleagues jubiliant over the party's rise to power in Uttarakhand and Punjab.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister-designate B C Khanduri was among the first to visit Vajpayee's residence to wish him a happy Holi and celebrate the festival of colours with him.

Senior BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi and party spokesman Ravishankar Prasad, in charge of Uttarakhand, were among the guests who celebrated Holi with Vajpayee.

Talking to reporters, Vajpayee said, "Holi is a festival of victory. It's a festival of harmony. It inspires us to forget all our differences and remain united."

Advani also hosted a Holi celebration at his home. A number of party colleagues visited Advani's residence to mark the festival.

"I have been in politics for over 50 years. I know how to take defeat and victory in my stride. A victory is always special," said Leader of the Opposition Advani.

Inimitable style

In Patna, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief and Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav also celebrated the festival at their respective residences in their own inimitable style.

A steady stream of people in the morning visited Nitish Kumar's official residence where the chief minister exchanged gulal, shawls and bouquets.

Lalu, known for his Kapda Fad' (tearing of clothes) style of Holi, celebrated the festival of colours with several RJD leaders and journalists who visited his Circular Road bungalow.
