Rapor:Charges will be framed on Tuesday in a special court in Ropar against Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family in a disproportionate assets case.
The Punjab Vigilance Department, under the previous Congress regime led by Amarinder Singh, had investigated the disproportionate assets case against the Badals.
A Ropar sessions court will frame charges against Badal, his wife Surinder Kaur, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal - an MP - and seven close associates for amassing properties disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The charges are to be filed under various sections of the IPC, CrPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The last Congress government of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh had ordered a vigilance inquiry into the assets of the Badals.
Unaccountable property
Later Badal and his associates were challaned for having unaccountable property of over Rs 78.39 crore.
The wealth amassed by the family was found to be worth Rs 4326 crore.
"The court has framed charges against Badal and ten others under various sections," said Bikram Choudhary, Parkash Singh Badal's lawyer.
The Badals had moved the Supreme Court in 2004 seeking relief, but in 2006 the apex court ordered the Ropar sessions court to proceed with the case.
Recently, Badal's lawyers submitted a detailed report in the Ropar court claiming that the income tax department had given them a clean chit. The court however dismissed this plea.
The Ropar sessions court has now asked Badal his wife and son and seven of Badal's close associates to be present in court in person on Tuesday.
