New Delhi:Thousands of pilgrims are stranded in Amarnath and Vaishno Devi after rain and snow blocked roads.
Around 4,000 pilgrims are stranded at the Amarnath base camp and around 4,500 at Vaishno Devi, were five pilgrims have died since Sunday night because of severe cold.
Unseasonal rain and snowfall have disrupted life in several parts of North India. Kashmir Valley is cut off from the rest of India after heavy snowfall blocked the Jammu-Srinagar Highway for the second consecutive day.
All incoming and outgoing flights to and from Srinagar Airport have also been cancelled. If the situation doesn't improve, the Valley may soon face a shortage of essential suppplies.
Heavy snow in Vishno Devi has left thousands of pilgrims stranded. Rains lashed Delhi throughout the night too. The capital has so far received 12 milimenters of rains, the highest ever in March. Himachal Pradesh too is reeling under a coldwave.
Rains continue in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The Met department expects these conditions to continue over the next few days.
