22 killed in Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh

Raipur:At least 22 security personnel were killed when armed Naxals lobbed grenades and opened indiscriminate fire at a police outpost in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Twenty-three personnel of Chhattisgarh armed force and 55 special police officers were posted there.

Some bodies and weapons are lying in that area, which we have not yet counted, so we cannot give the actual figure of death in the incident," said R K Vij, Bastar Range Inspector General of Police.

Indiscriminate fire

A large number of Naxals attacked the outpost, located in a jungle, from all sides and opened indiscriminate fire besides lobbing grenades and petrol bombs.

Before fleeing away with the weapons of the forces, the Naxalites heavily landmined the area and the barrack, where the policemen were staying.

CRPF and additional forces of state police have reached the spot.
