Conspirator confesses to 9/11 role

New Delhi: Pakistani al-Qaeda operative and the alleged mastermind of 9/11 attacks Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has confessed to being part of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre and 29 other terror plots around the world.

His admissions came in a closed-door hearing at Guantanamo Bay prison camp in the United States.

A transcript of the hearing was released by the Pentagon on Wednesday, which says, "I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z".

He also claimed responsibility for some 29 terrorist operations including the 1993 attack on the World Trade Centre, which was foiled, an assassination attempt against then-Pope John Paul II while he was visiting the Philippines and the Bali nightclub bombings in 2002.

Mohammed will now face criminal charges and eventually a trial before a special military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay.

According to a report in CNN, he made no apologies for what he had done, but did express remorse for the death of children in the September 11 attacks.

"I don't like to kill people," he said. "I feel very sorry they been killed kids in 9/11."
