CHENNAI: City-based Youth Association for Cultural Development and Sri Krishna Sweets on Sunday inaugurated `Eppadi Padinaro,' a series of `Tamil Isai' concerts featuring the works of Tamil composers such as Muthuthandavar and Marimuthapillai. Senior vocalist T.N. Seshagopalan gave the first concert of the series at Mylapore Fine Arts Club.
Organisers said 12 concerts had been planned in the series till January 2008.
Leading artistes including T.V. Sankaranarayanan, Sudha Raghunathan, O.S. Thyagarajan, Sanjay Subramaniam, S. Sowmya, N. Vijay Siva and P. Unnikrishnan will perform in the coming months.
Inaugurating the series, Kamban Kazhagam president and former minister R.M. Veerappan spoke on the need to bridge the gap between Carnatic and Tamil music.
R. Krishnamurthy of YACD said they were a group of youngsters eager to contribute to the society. "We are looking forward to working on several interesting projects," he said.
Kothamangalam S. Viswanathan was honoured in recognition of his service to Tamil Music. M. Murali of Sri Krishna Sweets and senior vocalist R.Vedavalli also participated.
