Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav won the motion of trust by voice vote in the Assembly in the absence of entire Opposition on Monday.
Mulayam had called his party MLAs for a meeting late on Sunday night, after which it was decided that the Samajwadi party would go ahead with the floor test in the Assembly on Monday.
All opposition parties have said Mulayam's effort to prove his majority has no significance after the model code of conduct has been announced by the Election Commission.
The BJP members staged a walkout from the Assembly before the motion was put to vote by Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey.
While all BSP members have submitted their resignation to party president Mayawati a few days back, the Congress members have also decided to send their resignations to party president Sonia Gandhi.
Earlier senior BJP leader, Lalji Tandon had said, “We'll perform the role of a responsible Opposition party and expose the government's unfair policies."
